Vance spent his career specializing in taxation, working in Head Office of CRA, as a Senior Partner with KPMG, and as Senior Vice President, Taxes with Thomson Reuters.  He appreciated the opportunity of living and working in Connecticut and Switzerland for most of the last 14 years of his career.

Vance has served on many boards and committees of charities, including serving on the CNCF board in its early years.

Vance and his wife Judy have three married children and nine grandchildren, all of whom live within 5 km of one another in Mississauga.
